This is it!
The last day of 2024.
I have one question for you:
Did you achieve any of the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of 2024?
I am happy to announce I achieved two out of the four goals I set for myself at the beginning of 2024.
My four goals for 2024 were:
Buy a camper/RV
Buy real estate within New York City
Buy a plot of land outside of New York City
Go on a cross-country road trip with my new RV
I purchased the camper and bought a home here in New York City (which I love).
But, because of the home-buying process, the finances involved, and how long it took to find, make an offer on, and close on the new home, I could not buy the plot of land or go on a cross-country road trip in my new RV.
Two out of four big goals achieved is not bad, all things considered.
And, as we are on the Eve of 2025, my big goals for 2025 are:
Eliminate digital clutter
Buy that plot of land outside of New York City
Go on a fifth mini-retirement (6-8 weeks in Vietnam, Thailand, or Italy & Spain)
That first goal (eliminate digital clutter) is a big one for me to pursue as I have digital clutter spread out in many different places, e.g., email inboxes, Google drive, etc.
I have a tendency to collect information that I believe will be valuable to me in the future, but I never follow up with most of that information to determine if it’s truly valuable and, if not, get rid of it.
It’s the digital equivalent of hoarding, and it has been, for lack of a better word, absolutely debilitating.
Additionally, it can be so overwhelming to consider how to handle all that information (digital clutter) that my default setting is to plop myself on the couch in front of the TV and do nothing.
How much digital clutter are we talking about?
We are talking about years of accumulating digital clutter. Years. And, as my friend Tommy once said, “this has got to end.”
Because I was off from work the past few days, I devised an attack plan for Operation Digital Declutter.
Now, it’s just a matter of me implementing that attack plan.
With that, I will end this article by saying:
First, develop 3 - 5 big goals you want to achieve in 2025. Dream big. Write your goals down.
And then dream bigger and revise your goals accordingly.
Second, if you are hoarding any physical or digital stuff, devise a plan to eliminate that stuff ruthlessly.
Third, buy yourself something nice you’ve been wanting. I recently purchased a 65-inch TV that I absolutely did not need just because. I plan on buying myself a video game console to work through my backlog of video games (and another reason to get rid of that aforementioned digital clutter).
And if you do not need anything, then invest in a life experience:
Spend some time in that dream destination you’ve wanted to travel to
Spend some time in nature off-grid
Take a cross-country road trip
The return on investment in any one of these life experiences is priceless.
And, finally…
I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year!
Cheers!
