Is the American Dream Dead?

I think not

As you may (or may not) know, we moved into our new home over the weekend.

The move went relatively well and we are extremely happy with the new space.

Now, the fun of unpacking and getting everything sorted begins.

I do have to say, you really do not know how much “stuff” you really have until you move.

I thought I got rid of a lot of stuff before my last move over ten years ago.

Gosh, was I in for a surprise when I was packing up all my “stuff.”

But I digress.

Because of the move, I was unable to prepare and draft a newsletter article for this week.

I do keep the drafts of every newsletter I ever wrote and I came across this draft I started and never completed, dated January 23, 2024:

I’ve been a bit frustrated this past weekend.

Thinking about personal finances, where you are, and where you want to go may do that to you.

Especially if you live in New York City.

Not only are rents ridiculously high, real estate prices (coupled with current mortgage interest rates) are even higher.

I guess I was so frustrated, I didn’t complete the article I initially titled, “Is the American Dream Dead?”

Here it is almost a year later and I am writing this as I sit in my new home and I can certainly tell you that I am no longer frustrated.

Not only am I happy with the new home, I am thrilled about the new neighborhood.

Granted, it’s only been a few days but first impressions are everything.

Owning a home in New York City has been a goal of mine since as long as I can remember.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am that I was able to accomplish that particular goal.

I'm also grateful for the friends who stopped by over the weekend to check out the new space and neighborhood.

That visit meant a lot to me.

With that, I will leave you with this:

Whatever goal(s) you may have for yourself, keep at it with determination, no matter how elusive that goal may be.

And whatever you do, do not give up.

You may be frustrated at times, but accomplishing your goal may just be right around the corner.

I will end this by saying, I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Quote that caught my attention:

A year from now you may wish you had started today.”
