Monday. 6:15am.

I am in a camper I purchased and picked up this past Saturday and am currently completely off-grid.

I do not have a water source or any form of electrical hook-up, and it is currently ~34 degrees outside.

I brought water (and beer), slept like a baby last night (toasty warm), and am writing to you via cell phone hotspot.

Concerning electricity, solar panels along the camper's roof charge a bank of lithium batteries for all of my electrical needs.

The batteries power everything within the camper from the microwave to the air conditioner.

Propane handles the heat.

There’s a small fridge, a two-burner stove, and a bathroom.

There are even heaters for the water tanks that I had to turn on last night to keep the water in the camper from freezing overnight.

The best part: there's no one else around for miles.

I am currently enjoying a hot cup of coffee, listening to birds chirping, and watching the sunrise.

I love being off-grid!

As much as I love being off-grid, I didn't do it as often as I wanted to in the past because of various factors, e.g., weather, shelter, limitations with food, etc.

With how cold it is currently outside, there's no way I'd be able to spend more than a night or two in a tent comfortably.

And don't get me started with rain or snow.

For years, I sought a way to get off-grid more often in any weather condition and enhance my cross-country road trips.

A completely off-grid capable camper was the answer I was looking for.

As long as I have water, the batteries are charged, and the propane tank is filled - I can stay off-grid.

I plan on spending this entire week off-grid.

I can't describe the feeling of being in an area entirely surrounded by nature, not having anyone else around, and far away from the overstimulation of New York City.

Truth be told, this is my first camper, and it is a bit overwhelming.

Like anything not experienced before, there is a bit of fear in the unknown.

There's a learning curve that comes with owning (and towing a camper).

And this camper wasn't cheap.

I paid a premium (in both the down payment and what was financed) for the features that make this little beast off-grid capable.

Additionally, it's a depreciable asset, financed at a rate considered "bad" debt, and my time using it is limited to when I am not working.

But, as I sit in the camper enjoying a coffee while looking out the window at all the trees I am surrounded by, I realize the investment is worth it now (and for the future).

An investment to enhance the life experiences I already enjoy.

And one of the best investments you can make is an investment in (enhancing) life experiences.
